It would also provide an interesting opportunity to for Zagreus to defend his home, despite his desire to leave it. In fact, even with a multitude of boons, Zagreus would have his work cut out for him. It is easy to imagine a multi-phase boss fight with this colossal creature at the end of a high heat playthrough.Īs far as narrative framing goes, Zagreus can't be the only entity stuck in the underworld trying to fight his way back to life, and even Hades would have trouble handling a foe that nearly toppled Zeus. It was a close fight too, but Zeus eventually cast Typhon into the depths of Tartarus (the place) with a well-aimed volley of thunderbolts- similar to his aid in Hades.įighting Typhon right off the bat would be a bit much, but this big bad has "Absurdly Powerful, Optional, Secret Boss" written all over him, akin to the Ruby and Emerald Weapons from Final Fantasy 7. In addition to siring Cerberus and many other monsters with his mate, Echidna, Typhon attempted to overthrow Zeus himself and seize control of Olympus. In the end, the only way Hercules was able to obtain the lion's impervious pelt was to skin it with one of its own claws-one of the only things sharp enough to penetrate its hide.Īccording to the ancient Greek poet, Hesiod, Typhon was the progeny of the primordial deities, Gaia and Tartarus (not to be confused with the plane of Tartarus). First he had to seal off all but one entrance to the its lair, and then he had to stun the creature with a club before strangling it with his bare hands. And while he eventually succeeded (conveniently depositing the lion in the underworld for Hades' purposes), killing the beast was an arduous task. Killing the lion was the first of Heracles famous twelve labors. The Nemean Lion, for example, had a taste for the flesh of men and golden fur that was completely impenetrable by mortal arms. And mythologically empowered lions existed in the same weight class as demi-gods and heroes. Though the relationship is new, it is built on a solid foundation, with both caring for one another even after everything they've gone though.Lions are not thought of as monstrous in modern day but in Ancient Greece, where lions were rare enough that they were almost considered mythological unto themselves, they commanded the same kind of awe, fear, and respect as any fantasy creature. Both the Christian and Ancient definitions are relevant here, as they pertain to the kind of transcendent, persistent and unconditional love that is seen when Thanatos asks Zagreus to accept his flaws. While the scene is brief, the relationship between the two mostly closely resembles agape, considered to be the highest form of love. Christians have used agape to describe the love between God and humans, and the Ancient Greeks also used it in reference to love between spouses or family. Afterwards, Thanatos tells Zagreus that, while he may sometimes be quiet and distant, he has good intentions and would like to keep seeing him, which Zagreus agrees to. Again, the player can choose to "Comfort him" or "Ease off," the first of which leads to Thanatos asking Zagreus "What are you waiting for?" and the scene fading to black. Q: Was Zagreus the biological son of Hades in any version of the myth Zagreus is universally agreed to be the son of Persephone. Thanatos' romance scene begins with him asking Zagreus if he meant it when he said they should take their time. Though their relationship begins tense (Zagreus is literally trying to escape death), they grow to care for one another over time. Though Zagreus claims to not be the god of anything, the game indicates that he is the god of blood and life, making the two opposites of one another. nude sex theseus(hades) yaoi zagreus 1girls 2boys breastgrab cowgirlposition greekmythology hades(game) hypnos hypnos(hades) innkeeperworm. The final romanceable character players will encounter, and perhaps the most interesting, is Thanatos, the embodiment of death. The scene ends with the two promising to remain friends forever, providing an example of philia, or "brotherly love." Zagreus takes it well, telling her that he respects her feelings. Dusa tells Zagreus that, while she does have feelings for him, she isn't attracted to him in that way and implying that she may be asexual. However, after maxing out your relationship, Dusa's cutscene is less of a romantic conversation and more of a conversation about romance. But Dusa's behavior in Hades is nothing like her apparent counterpart, as she is awkward and jumpy.ĭusa often behaves like a schoolgirl with a crush around Zagreus, gasping and emitting hearts when he is close and disappearing as if flustered or embarrassed after a short conversation. The game implies that she may have been Medusa when she was alive and had a body, as her name and occupation (Maid Dusa) are a pun on the mythological Gorgon's name. The floating, disembodied head described as a "duty-bound Gorgon" is far from a traditional romantic option, and her ending is just as unconventional.
